19 August, 2009

On Thursday 20 August, Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will attend the dinner of the foreign minister meeting of Nordic Countries and Baltic States – the so-called NB8 Group – to be organised in Reykjavik, Iceland. The topics of discussion will include the ongoing Swedish EU Presidency, Iceland’s EU membership application, the economic crisis and its impacts in the participating countries, and the situation in Afghanistan.

On Friday, the meeting will address the situation in Northern Europe in closer detail from the perspectives of, for instance, the EU Baltic Sea Strategy, regional energy policy projects, regional co-operation organisations, and the foreign and security policy recommendations and implementation thereof of the so-called Stoltenberg Report.

The tradition to organise foreign minister meetings of the NB8 Group towards the end of the summer has continued since 1993. A year ago, the meeting was held in Pärnu, Estonia.
