Foreign Minister Haavisto to visit Bahrain

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will attend the Manama Dialogue organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in Bahrain from 18 to 19 November. He will have a number of bilateral meetings during the visit.

The IISS Manama Dialogue, organized already for the 18th time, brings together policymakers and experts from across the world to debate security policy. The theme of this year’s Dialogue is ‘Rules and Competition in the Middle East’, and participants also have the opportunity to discuss the state of international peace and security more broadly.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will participate in a panel discussion on the impact of extra-regional conflicts on security in the Middle East. In addition, the minister will have bilateral meetings in connection with the conference.

“The security situation in the Middle East has far-reaching effects. Finland has always had an active interest in the developments in the region . Through dialogue, we aim to avoid vicious circles of negative reactions and counter-reactions in the region. The Manama Dialogue is a good opportunity for this,” Minister Haavisto says.
