EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine, situation in Israel and the region, the Sahel, and economic security
EU foreign ministers will convene in Brussels on 11 December. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will represent Finland at the meeting.
In their discussion on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the ministers will focus on the EU’s support to Ukraine, the security commitments and sanctions.
“The EU must continue its support to Ukraine and move forward with the security commitments to Ukraine,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Valtonen.
The Foreign Affairs Council has the situation in Israel and the region on its agenda.
“The humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating further. At the same time, violence has considerably increased in the West Bank. The EU must continue to contribute to efforts towards ending violence and reaching a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” Foreign Minister Valtonen says.
The ministers will also exchange views on the latest developments in the Sahel and the foreign policy dimension of the EU’s economic security.
In connection with the Council meeting, a dinner with Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, an informal breakfast with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Samveli Mirzoyan and an Eastern Partnership ministerial meeting will be organised.
