The Permanent Representation in Strasbourg will no longer grant  passports

The Finnish ministry for Foreign Affrairs has decided to revoke the decision to grant passports from the Permanent Representation in Strasbourg starting from August 1st 2008. The Representation shall focus on its core activity, representing Finland at the Council of Europe. Moreover, the costs incurred by the new biometric passports, low number of applications as well as personnel cuts at the Representation have made the discontinuation necessary. The Permanent Representation has granted passports since autumn 2006.

A Finnish citizen resident abroad can apply for a passport at the nearest Finnish embassy. During trips to Finland the application can be submitted to any police station in Finland.

The Finnish embassy in Paris assists Finnish citizens resident in France with passport and consular matters.

The application for a passport can be made in Strasbourg untill the end of July. At the same time it is possible to agree where the passport will be collected as from August 1st.
