State Secretary Tiilikainen met with the Chinese ambassador

State Secretary Teija Tiilikainen summoned Chinese Ambassador Ma Keqing to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to provide information about events in Tibet. At the meeting on Tuesday, 18 March, Tiilikainen expressed Finland’s concern about the situation.

State Secretary Tiilikainen also presented Finland’s disapproval that Katri Makkonen, a correspondent for the Finnish Broadcasting Company, had been detained while doing her work as a journalist in Gansu Province, China. Tiilikainen stressed freedom of speech and the importance of the media’s work in ensuring the development of rule of law.
