UNITE to End Violence against Women -kampanjan päätöspäivänä Maailman postiliitto sekä Belgian, Suomen ja Kreikan suurlähetystöt yhdistivät voimansa ja allekirjoittivat yhteisen julkilausuman sukupuoleen perustuvaa väkivaltaa vastaan.
Joint statement by the Universal Postal Union and the embassies of Belgium, Finland and Greece in Berne, Switzerland
Gender-based violence is a serious violation of human rights and a life-threatening health and protection issue. Although anyone – women, girls, men and boys – can fall victim to violence simply because of their sex or gender, women and girls are especially at risk. It is estimated that one in three women will experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetime. Gender-based violence can include sexual, physical, mental and economic harm inflicted in public or in private. It also includes threats of violence, coercion and manipulation. The consequences of gender-based violence are devastating, can have life-long repercussions for survivors and can even lead to death.
On the occasion of the lnternational Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Universal Postal Union and the embassies of Belgium, Finland and Greece in Berne, Switzerland, are joining their voices against gender-based violence.
We unequivocally condemn all forms of gender-based violence. This includes physical, emotional and psychological abuse, as well as any form of discrimination or harassment based on gender. Gender-based violence is a violation of human rights and dignity, and it perpetuates inequality and injustice in our society.
We stand for zero tolerance of all forms of gender-based violence, sexist attitudes and behaviour. Furthermore, we pledge to create and maintain safe workplaces, treating every person with respect and fairness, and to accelerate collective action towards the elimination of all forms of gender-based violence.
We commit to fostering a culture of respect, equality and safety for all individuals, regardless of their gender. We support survivors of gender-based violence and advocate for their rights and well-being. We envisage a world in which the societal norms and structures that enable such violence have been removed.
Together, we can create a world where everyone can live free from violence, and where gender equality is a reality for all.
