Sunna Nousuniemi’s short film at imagineNATIVE Film Festival

Gáidat/máhccat (dissociate) an experimental short film by young Finnish Sámi filmmaker Sunna Nousuniemi will have its Canadian premiere at imagineNative.

ImagineNATIVE(Link to another website.) is the largest indigenous film and screen content festival in the world, taking place online this year with worldwide access to most of the programming. 

Sunna Nousuniemi herself has her own personal behind-the-scenes experience as well, having recently served two years as the director of Skábmagovat(Link to another website.),  Finland’s indigenous film and media arts festival.  These days she is busy as a project coordinator at the International Sámi Film Institute(Link to another website.), in addition to making films, activism and occasional stints as a DJ. 

The International Sámi Film Institute is represented at the festival by Film Commissioner and Lapland ambassador Liisa Holmberg(Link to another website.) in the industry panel Indigenous Language Production Circumpolar Region(Link to another website.) on October 22.

Nousuniemi’s short film gáidat/máhccat (dissociate)(Link to another website.) deals with the effects of colonization.  It will be screening online October 23 – 25.
