Eyes as Big as Plates at Sphere festival in Ottawa
An ongoing photography project by artists Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth explores how modern humans relate to nature.

Since 2011 Finnish artist Riitta Ikonen(layout.types.url.description) and her Norwegian colleague Karoline Hjorth(layout.types.url.description) have been working on Eyes as Big as Plates(layout.types.url.description) photographing retired people exploring their relationship to nature. Todate, the exhibit in its various stages has been shown at numerous galleries around the world.
This free event is part of National Art Centre Sphere(layout.types.url.description) festival which explores how humans will navigate our changing world through arts, science and creative fields. It is also part of Nordic Bridges(layout.types.url.description), a year-long cultural initiative fostering cultural exchange between the Nordic region and Canada.
Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen talk to the Finnish Institute in UK and Ireland about Eyes as Big as Plates(layout.types.url.description) while the exhibit was at the Barbican in London, England.
