Aurora, the story of a party girl and heavy drinker stumbling aimlessly through life, has been praised by critics in Finland and abroad.  It has garnered a record number of 13 nominations for the Finnish national film award, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Lead and Supporting Actors, and Best Script.  Director Miia Tervo’s first feature film is a fresh take on a romantic comedy, filmed in Rovaniemi, Lapland.  After yet another night of partying, Aurora meets Iranian Darian at a hot-dog stand. Darian needs to marry a Finnish woman to get asylum for himself and his daughter. Aurora turns him down as she has plans to move to Norway to make some serious money working there. However, for a fee, she will help him find a wife, even if her matchmaking skills leave a lot to be desired.

Variety : “An enjoyable dramedy from Finnish Lapland that uses location and characters to add something fresh to familiar romantic comedy beats.”

Screenanarchy from SXSW : “…a snapshot of modern-day Finland from a refreshing angle.”
