Advance Polls in Canada for the Finnish County Elections
Right to vote in the County elections is based on domicile on record in the Finnish population register. All persons over 18, whose municipality of residence is in Finland are eligible to vote.
A total of 21 wellbeing services counties have been established in Finland. The new wellbeing services counties constitute the electoral districts for the county elections. In the elections, the members and deputy members of county councils in each wellbeing services county will be elected. The county councils will be responsible for organising health, social and rescue services in the wellbeing services counties. No county elections will be conducted in Helsinki and Åland, as they do not belong to any wellbeing services county. The City of Helsinki and the Province of Åland continue to be responsible for organising health, social and rescue services within their area.
Finns residing permanently abroad are not entitled to vote in the county elections. Read more about the right to vote.(Link to another website.)
The Ministry of Justice is responsible for organising the postal voting. If you are eligible to vote(Link to another website.) we recommend voting by mail(Link to another website.), because Covid-19 related restrictions by local authorities may result in unexpected closing of polling stations. Please order the voting material as soon as possible so that it is feasible to send the vote to Finland on time. Voters who are not within reasonable distance from the advance polling stations should also order the voting material immediately.
A voting notice will be mailed to every eligible voter latest December 31, 2021, to the address on file in the population register. If you are not certain your details in the register are current, contact the Digital and Data Services Agency(Link to another website.).
