The Embassy of Finland in Brazil is recruiting a press and communications adviser from April 1, 2023 or as agreed. The Press and Communications Adviser will work in the Political and Public Diplomacy team to support a wide range of Finnish government objectives and deliver effective communications to a wide audience through press and media relations, and other channels including the Embassy’s digital and social media.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

  • Monitoring Brazilian media (incl. social media) and political developments in Brazil
  • Updating the Embassy’s communication plan
  • Management of press relations: Maintaining and expanding the Embassy’s network of media and influencer contacts, and planning media engagements for Embassy officials.
  • Creating strategic communications content and public relations campaigns in Portuguese and English for the Embassy’s social media platforms as well as managing the Embassy’s social media accounts.
  • Organization and graphic design of communication materials (website, posters, leaflets, invitation cards, gifts, video editing
  • Assisting in planning and organizing public diplomacy events and visits
  • Preparing presentations and drafting speaking points for Embassy leadership
  • Assisting in organizing visits by delegations from Finland to Brazil, functioning as focal point for Press and preparation of press conferences (locations, logistics, invitations, conduct, presentation, follow-up, etc.)
  • Drafting press releases and articles, preparing press kits
  • Collecting necessary data and preparing background papers on demand e.g. analysing the effectiveness of our communications to inform and improve future work.
  • Coordinating with external service providers (graphic designers, printers, photographers, videographers, etc.)
  • Provide support to the Political Team
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Employer  
     

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) in native Portuguese and fluent English
  • Confidence to build and engage an effective network of contacts
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills, incl. prioritization
  • Flexibility, resiliency and decisiveness, under pressure and with the ability to deliver quickly and to a high standard
  • Strong IT skills, knowledge and experience of using social media
  • A collaborative approach to team work
  • Understanding of current affairs/political environment/foreign policy

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Education: minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field;
  • Experience of working in an international context and/or relevant experience in a public relations or communications role. 
  • 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience minimum;
  • Experience in creating social media, digital media and website content;
  • Basic graphic designing skills;
  • Photography, videography
  • Editing skills;
  • Good knowledge of the Brazilian media landscape
  • Understanding of current affairs/political environment/foreign policy;
  • Knowledge of project management:
  • Knowledge of / interest in the Finnish society

The appointment is subject to professional background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.
