Vanhanen’s second Cabinet appointed

On Thursday 19 April, the President of the Republic appointed Finland’s 70th Cabinet. In the same connection, the President of the Republic released the ministers of Vanhanen’s first Cabinet from their duties. The Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen consists of 20 ministers.

The Centre Party and the National Coalition Party have eight ministerial posts each. The Green League and the Swedish People's Party both have two ministers.

In its first plenary session on 19 April, the Government made decisions on the division of duties among the ministers, on the members of the statutory Cabinet Committees and on the deputies for the ministers. The Minister of Finance, Jyrki Katainen, was appointed as the minister deputising for the Prime Minister.
