Season's Greetings and Happy New Year!

2019 marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Australia. To mark the occasion, the past 12 months have been full of activity!

The Embassy brought together Finska fanatics from around the country for their chance at glory. We supported a dialogue on climate change between different generations, as well as hosting a roundtable discussion on using Finland as a model to improve vocational education in Australia.

The Finnish Crazy Games returned for the third time. We launched a brand new website and championed principles of sustainable development during Finland’s term as the chair of the Council of the European Union. 2019 was the year Australians learned they are not a he or a she in Finnish, but a hän.

We said hello and goodbye to three wonderful interns, Susanna, Mirjam and Leeni. In total, 933 customers visited the Embassy this year.

But, perhaps what Finns will remember most from 2019 are triumphs on the sporting field. Leijonat are World Champs! Helmarit are now receiving equal pay, and thanks to Huuhkajat – what a summer it will be. Torille!

So, from all of us at the Embassy of Finland in Canberra we wish you every happiness this holiday season and throughout the coming year!
