Finland's achievements in post-school education discussed as blueprint for Australia

Earlier this week the Embassy in Finland in Australia was delighted to host the Nordic Policy Centre’s roundtable discussion on building an equitable vocational pathway in Australia. In addition to representatives from each of the Nordic embassies in Canberra, the event was attended by Australian business, TAFE and labour union leaders.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn from Finland’s world-leading expert on education policy, Pasi Sahlberg, about Finland’s guiding principles that have supported its equitable achievement across post-school educational institutions. The use of this Finnish approach for improving vocational education outcomes in Australia was discussed in a subsequent roundtable discussion chaired by Professor Andrew Scott from Melbourne's Deakin University.

The full report written in preparation for this event is available to read online and is titled Degrees North: Vocational and University Education in Australia and Nordic countries(Link to another website.) co-authored by Professor Andrew Scott, Emeritus Professor Tor Hundloe and Mr Shirley Jackson.
